The model of treatment provided is based on the understanding that healthy relationships provide healing. These healthy relationships are with ourselves, our higher power and with those who are important to us. The barriers to these relationships are embedded in trauma histories. Growth, change and healing occur when we are taught Trauma Resiliency skills and healthy relationship skills as an individual and more effectively in a group process.
Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy is used in the treatment plan as well to help in processing past traumas, rewiring the neural-pathways in the brain and interrupting the fear loops and default mode networks that keep us stuck in the same old destructive patterns. The new pathways - neurogenesis and new insights - through neuroplasticity, allows us to break free from addictive behaviors and intrusive negative thoughts and feelings.
Healthy relationships promote emotional healing. The greater our skill set to interact and relate translates into a greater ability to navigate our emotions. A person’s well-being and happiness is not a constant state of bliss but rather an ability to navigate more effectively through the ups and downs of daily life. We cannot control for the most part what happens to us each day. While we may have a schedule or a routine such as work or school or home life, there are other unanticipated factors that come into play. Perhaps you are late for school because you hit all the traffic lights, or maybe you got pulled over for an alleged traffic violation. Maybe your friend called you because they had lost a loved one. Maybe your school was shut down for a pandemic. You might be struggling with your own health issues or providing constant care for someone in need. Maybe there is a power outage and you have a fear of lightning and the dark. Perhaps you feel isolated or triggered in your intimate relationships. So yes, the list is endless of events that are out of our control. It is our ability to respond to these issues that creates well-being and happiness. The key to success is our connectedness with ourselves, with others and with God - a greater power that is outside of ourselves.
Self-connection comes from understanding yourself and your journey of life. It is important to know what your passions are, what your fears are and what triggers a trauma response for you. It is essential to know how to nurture yourself in a healthy way and reach out to others to meet this need as well. Learning and practicing these skills daily will create a new and healthier you.Connections with others are intertwined with knowing yourself. As you learn to see your own story with compassion you gain the skills to see others’ stories as well. As we help others in their journey of healing we are increasing our own path of healing.
“The paradox of the human spirit is that I am not fully myself until I am recognized in my uniqueness by another – and that another person needs my recognition in order to fully become the unique person he or she is. We are inextricably intertwined. Our valuing of another brings value to ourself. We are part of a loop of reciprocal relations.” Erving Polster
Our connection with God is the ultimate healing source. As we practice healthy patterns of treating ourselves and others we become more open to the healing balm of our creator and stop the patterns that have kept us stuck for so long.
